2005 BRIO Awards Presentation Ceremony and Opening Reception for Better Recognize: Bronx Artists 2005 – A visual art exhibition featuring work by the 2005 BRIO award winners, including Beth Brideau, Howard Cash, Linda Cunningham, Alejandra Delfin, James Gross, Daniel Hauben, Shinichiro Kitaura, Aristides Logothetis, Agnes Murray, and Ron Terner and two of last years winners, Luis Fonseca, and Clara Williams.

BRIO LAB- CDs with listening stations and published manuscripts for perusal from past BRIO winners in music composition, performance and the literary arts (5:00-8:00pm)

 
 
HOSTOS CENTER FOR ARTS AND CULTURE
 
An Evening of Words and Music (of former BRIO winners) including the Latin jazz of Ray Vega, words and music by Universes featuring Steve Sapp and Mildred Ruiz, and performance poet Baruch Israel. (6:00-7:00pm).

 
 
BRONX MUSEUM OF THE ARTS
 
(1) Jazz Con BRIO includes performances by (former BRIO winners) Desmar Guevara and his ensemble, jazz vocalist Alma Micic and jazz instrumentalist Roy Campbell. (6:15-7:10pm)

(2) A tour of the museum and a viewing of its current exhibits: Collection Remixed takes its cue from venerable recording labels that have invited DJs to remix classic material from its vaults. S-T-E-R-E-O-V-I-E-W – Artist Javier Téllez bridges the gap between the mentally ill and society, challenging stereotypes and giving patients a public voice. Romare Bearden: New York Scenes features Bearden’s New York Scenes (1979) — a group of watercolors commissioned for the opening credits of John Cassavetes’ Gloria, a film set in the Bronx.

Latina Theater Explosion featuring excerpts from the one-person shows of former BRIO winners, winners Elizabeth Marrero, Desi Moreno-Penson, Wanda Raimundi-Ortiz, and Alba Sanchez. (6:35-7:15 and 7:35-8:15pm)
 
 
DOWNTOWN BRONX BAR & CAFÉ
 
No Imports. An evening of poetry with featured artist Bonafide Rojas. Additional readings from past BRIO- winners Elizabeth Bassford, Oscar Bermeo, Thomas Glave, Janet Kaplan, Mindy Matijasevic, Pedro Pacheco, and Rick Pernod.(8:00-9:30pm)

LEHMAN COLLEGE’S LOVINGER THEATER
BRIO Film Fest – BX1 continues with screenings of short films by former BRIO winners Claudia Amaya, Ron Duncan, Sarah Goodman, and Richard Shpuntoff; and featuring a screening of work by award-winning filmmaker Tony Vitale (“Kiss Me, Guido”) followed by a Q & A and reception. COLLECTORS’ TOUR / BRIO ART EXPO
LONGWOOD ART GALLERY/HOSTOS COMMUNITY COLLEGE
Collectors’ Tour – BX1 continues with a collectors’ tour led by a noted arts professional visiting the studios of some of today’s leading and emerging visual artists. Tour participants will meet at the Longwood Art Gallery. Hostos is located at 450 Grand Concourse at 149th Street in the Bronx .
